My presentation at Pasadena, CA

ABSTRACT
Purpose Statement
The purpose of this research is equipping leaders in the Church of Christ with the biblical tools and character to lead the church in reaching the un-churched in a North American postmodern context.
Goal Statement
The goal of this study is to recommend a model for change in patterns of leadership and ministry to do the mission of the church, disciple and connect people to Christ, and serve the needs of people in the postmodern context of North America in order for the church to grow spontaneously as God intended in the New Testament.
Central Research Issue
The Central Research Issue for this study is to identify the patterns of leadership change that will be conducive to enabling evangelism in an increasingly postmodern context of a North American society.
Variables
The variables requiring investigation in this research are defined as the following two ways:
1. Patterns of change in order to make a difference in spontaneous church growth
to make a shift from the hindrances in leadership in ministry to what enhances
evangelism; to modify the present leadership roles; and to be progressive in
methodology in mission.
2. The research is also concerned with evangelism in a North American
postmodern context.
Research Questions
In view of the variables of investigation there are five important research questions:
1. What is the nature of leadership and ministry patterns in the Churches of Christ?
2. What are the contours of the postmodern North American context?
3. What are the predominant leadership issues for Church of Christ leaders of evangelism and missions?
4. What are the changes needed to effectively evangelize a postmodern world?
Methodology
I will use the Inductive Method of research to answer the question, “What is the missional theology of leadership and ministry patterns in the Churches of Christ?” In other words, “What does the Bible teach about ministering to the lost?” I will also use a variety of Qualitative Methods to collect and analyze data to develop a model of ministry for the postmodern society. Questionnaires, participation observation, and interviews will help me to understand the thinking of the postmodern world. A review of literature will provide information necessary for the theoretical foundations of the research.
Summary
It is my desire to further the mission of the Church of Christ. The model of ministry recommended will enhance the spontaneous growth of the church in the postmodern context. It will equip the church to reach the lost with this mode of thinking.
